2 Simple Steps I use that make life easier

parenting November 16, 2018

Being a mom is hard. And it will probably be the hardest thing, I will ever do in my whole life. And as I’m learning, it does NOT get easier as my children get older. Just different worries, more obstacles and more complex decisions on how we want to raise our children.

But it’s not just raising our children that’s hard. It’s maintaining all of the little nuances that comes with having a family; our schedule, our house and keeping the growing kids’ stomachs full.

Being a ‘mom’, is a full time, 24 hour a day job. It can be stressful, hard and somedays you may want to lock yourself in the closet and maybe just cry. (Maybe that’s just me?)

The past few weeks I’ve been trying little things that have helped me keep my mind and body in check. Things that help keep the days easy and a little less stressful.

Step 1:

The 1 minute rule.

Here is how it works. If it takes less than a minute to accomplish a task, then do it. For example, it takes less than a minute for me to put my shoes up when I take them off so instead of leaving them sitting in front of the couch, I grab them and put them in their spot in the closet. It takes less than a minute to rinse off my plate and put in the dishwasher. One minute or less to make my bed. Simple things but all things that have made my life 10x easier and cleaner.

Step 2:

This one can and might be hard at first but I promise it is sooooo worth it. I call it quiet time. On your phone there is a way to mute all calls for a time period. I chose 11am-2pm. During this time, I put my phone on mute (do not disturb). I don’t pick it up, get on social media or anything. Unless it’s an emergency of course.

When you put your phone on do not disturb you can choose a time frame and who to allow calls from (for instance the kids’ school or your husband) Everyone else’s phone calls or text will be muted.

How to set up your iPhones do not disturb.

  • Go to settings
  • click on ‘do not disturb’
  • Turn on
  • Turn on Scheduled and pick a time. I suggest at least 2 hours
  • Click on ‘allow calls from’ and pick your emergency numbers. You might have to create a group on your contacts for this.

How to create a group contact on iPhone.

  • Go to iCloud.com
  • Click on contacts
  • on the bottom right click the +
  • Create your Emergency group contacts
  • To add a contact to your group all you have to do is select and drag from all contacts into your emergency group.

Applying these two simple things have changed my days and it is incredible to see how much I get done around the house. 2 simple things. And you can too. Enjoy your time and come back and let me know how it’s working out for you.

Living Life one day at a time

But if serving the Lord seems undesirable to you, then choose for yourselves this day whom you will serve, whether the gods your ancestors served beyond the Euphrates, or the gods of the Amorites, in whose land you are living. But as for me and my household, we will serve the Lord.”

Joshua 24:15 Joshua 24:15

Whatever you do, work at it with all your heart, as working for the Lord, not for human masters, since you know that you will receive an inheritance from the Lord as a reward. It is the Lord Christ you are serving.

Colossians 3:23-24 Colossians 3:23-24

My flesh and my heart may fail, but God is the strength of my heart and my portion forever.

Psalm 73:26 Psalm 73:26
