I’m tired, so so tired. I’ve been a mom for 8.5 years and have never (besides vacations) had a full night of sleep. Ok, ok, maybe here and there but truly, it hasn’t been many.
I remember the first time I got excited about the husband having to get up for the first time to help the kids in the morning. It was the day before we brought home my 2nd child. I told him that since we were going to be having a baby, he was going to have to get up when Nolan (1st born) got up. He was 2.3 years old and I never made him get up.
Come to find out (oh I was so MAD) The same night we brought home Luke (baby #2) was the night Nolan decided that he was ready to start sleeping through the night. UGH. Talk about one lucky husband.
Luke was about the same, he didn’t start sleeping through the night until after he was two. I don’t remember the date but it was after I was already pregnant and I do remember rolling my eyes and asking God why, why did Luke have to wait until I was so uncomfortable to sleep through the night?
But then this beauty came along. And guess what… She STILL isn’t sleeping through the night. She will be 4 on the 30th!!!!!
Today, I was done. I was so done not sleeping. I was up early to take her to the doctor because for the first time in her little life Ryan had an ear infection. I figured it was the perfect time to ask the doctor about sleep.
What can I do to help her sleep? I’ve tried eliminating things, keeping her up late, not taking napes and so on. Nothing seemed to be working.
That’s when the doctor informed me about giving her Melatonin. Now, I’ve given her this before. But it was a very, very small amount and never more than 1mg. She let me know she could now take 3-5mg.
The 1mg she used to take always helped her fall asleep, however, this is to help her stay asleep throughout the night.
So here’s to my toddler sleeping tonight. Wish me luck 🙂
