The Husband and I have been struggling lately with getting everything ready in the mornings. From waking up the boys, make sure they are getting dress, eating before we leave and packing Lukes school lunches before we walk out the door at 7 a.m.
You see Luke has many food allergies and with all of his allergies, it makes it hard for us to trust that he will get the right food during lunchtime at school. Due to this, we have decided to pack his lunches every day. But, with this, it has made it even a little harder finding things that he can eat that do not need to be heated up. Believe it or not, it is hard. You see he cannot have bread, gluten or anything of that sort. Along with dairy and milk, we have to find items that he can eat and still fill him up for the rest of the school day.
If you didn’t know, growing boys eat A LOT!
I explained all this before getting to the post so that you understand why some of the foods that we pack him are so random.
However, this method can be used for all children and maybe even easier for those who don’t have allergies. It makes our morning heaven compared to what it used to be.
We use paper bags. Luke use to forget his lunch box or throw his trash and open foods into his box making a huge mess to clean up after school every day.
I like to place the day of the week on his bags. I do this because he eats a lot of the same items and I try to mix up each day, so he doesn’t get too bored with his food.
Once you know what you want to feed them, this part is easy. Place each item on the day of his bag and then start packing. All dry foods go into the bags and his cold items I place into a box with a label on it in the fridge.
Due to Luke having so many allergies, he has his own shelf in the pantry. This is where I place all the extra, after-school snacks and his pre-packed lunches.
By doing this it not only saves us time in the morning, but it also makes it easy to let Luke pack his own lunch and give him the opportunity to learn a little more responsibility.
Now you have it; this is how we make our morning go that much smoother. Even if you didn’t want to pre-pack the lunch, by giving the children their own shelf will help.
I hope you all have an amazing day…
