The summer holidays have been and gone. The kids are back at school, and the days are getting shorter and cooler. Now that a normal daytime regime is restored at home, is it time you got back to the gym? After weeks of running around after the kids, it’s time to focus on you again, and get healthy. If you’ve taken a break over the holidays, here are some top tips to get you started again.
Think about what you want to do
Many of us assume that we need to go to the gym to enjoy a good workout. But this isn’t the case. You don’t have to go and use a treadmill to increase your endurance. You don’t have to lift weights to make you stronger. If the thought of working up a sweat in a room full of people doesn’t appeal, try something new. You could go jogging at the beach every morning or take yoga classes. Grab some friends and join a circuit training session or take up tennis, rowing or cycling. There are loads of things you can do, and it’s possible to fit workouts around your schedule. You could also exercise at home.
Set yourself some realistic targets
It’s beneficial to set goals in all areas of life. We tend to push ourselves if there’s a target in sight. If you’re keen to get back into exercise, make sure you’re always working towards something. When you’re setting targets, be realistic. If your objective is unattainable, you’ll quickly lose interest. Likewise, if it’s too easy, you won’t work as hard as you could.
Invest in some new gym wear
Are you a bit of a shopaholic? Do you like to treat yourself to some new clothes from time to time? If you’re making an effort at the gym, it’s only right that you should enjoy some rewards. After a summer break, why not renew your interest in getting fit by buying some new gym gear? You don’t have to spend a lot, and you’ll find some great options at the mall. Before you take a trip, go online and look for offers that could save you money like an H&M coupon. If shopping is your passion, you can also use this to push yourself. When you reach your goal, you could treat yourself to that top you’ve wanted for ages or a new necklace, for example.
Get a personal trainer
Do you find it hard to push yourself? Do you give up if you’re getting tired? Are you never quite willing to give it 100%? If this sounds familiar, a personal trainer could help. Your trainer isn’t just there to show you what to do. They’re also there to push you when you could give more and to encourage and motivate you. When you think you’re at full pelt, you could probably give more. Your trainer will help to get that little bit extra out of you.
In the summer, it can be tough to find time to workout. You’ve got kids to entertain and days fly by without you even realizing. Now that school has restarted, it’s an excellent time to get fit again, and focus on your health.
