Getting Ready for a Road Trip

January 20, 2015

At the beginning of the year we always take a fun trip to Louisiana to see my husbands family. We drive and it is one of the longest trips we take with the kids. Driving seven plus hours with a five year old, two year old and new born is always difficult so in order to make our trip go a little smother there are a few things I like to do in order to prepare. The first major thing that have to be done before every trip would of course be getting the oil changed in the SUV. The last thing I want happening on our trip is a break down on some major highway.

When getting my oil changed I always head to Walmart’s Automotive Center. Being able to get my oil changed using Pennzoil Conventional Motor Oil is one of the reasons I head to Walmart. I always use Pennzoil products because they help clean out sludge lesser oils leave behind. But not only does Walmart change my oil but I also get to do my shopping for my must have road trip survival kit at the same time.

My survival kit contains a lot of things to keep my kids at bay when on the road. Snacks, Drinks, but not to many drinks because I don’t want to be stopping every hour, movies and of course Diapers and wipes for clean up.
Now that we have our car set, oil changed and my survival kit, we are all set to go.
After making our long trip that took us two days to get there we were ready to see the great grandparents. With both of my grandparents being gone it’s so lovely to be able to see Jareds grandmothers and have them meet our children. Here are some pictures of 4 generations with Ryan.
I can not wait to head back next year if not sooner when the kids are a bit easier to handle while on the road.

It looks like you survived your road trip and had a wonderful time with your family! This totally reminds me that I really need to get my oil changed soon. I let it go way too long. Good to know I can get it done at Walmart. I love your survival kit!

Yowzers, more than a 7 hour drive with 3 kids under 7. You're a brave woman. But sounds like you have everything under control with games, snacks, good food, and everything else in between. Have fun in Louisiana!

Road trips are always fun! It's so important to make sure that your car is working properly especially before you're planning on driving a long distance! I'm glad you guys had a great time! Love the post!

What a time saver being able to shop while your car's oil is being changed. Love your survival kit I still hate long car rides and can imagine how hard it is to travel with younger kids. Snacks are my must pack for me for long car rides.

It looks like your road trip was a success. I would like to take one. However, I don’t think I will be doing anymore long road trips with the kids until they are older. Our last one they all got a bit fussy because of traffic, etc.

I can remember traveling with my niece, when she was two years old from Atlanta, GA to New York, NY and it took us about two days. I had my survival kit and it was a lifesaver's. It took the boredom out and made great memories along the way. I love how you were very organized and I'm going to pack the night before for our next adventure. You have a beautiful family and Thank you for sharing your memories with me.

Road trips are the best…especially when it means spending time with so many generations of family! I'm totally heading to Walmart to get my oil changed next time it's due. Thanks for sharing! #client

My son is ALL About Thomas the Train right now! I recently had my oil done at Walmart and it was SO cheap and easy to do. I totally recommend it because we were able to browse around the store while we waited. My toddler didn't mind that at all!

It looks like you had a bunch of fun on your trip and thank goodness for Walmart automotive and their quality oil changes! I'm a huge fan of dropping my car off while I shop and actually need to take my car in before driving to the Midwest for Spring Break, thanks for the reminder! 😉

Looks like you got to get some great family time in 🙂 Checking and changing oil is so simple and so important to a vehichile. A good friend of mine had her brand new car for 2 years and her motor seized up because of clogged oil.

Wow, kudos to you for driving 7 hours with the kids, especially with a newborn in tow! I couldn't even imagine that as the furthest we have to drive to get from the south of Ireland to the north is like five and half hours. It must be so worth it getting to visit family though, your pictures are lovely. We always bring snacks and wipes when we're traveling with our little one too.

I always love seeing photos with multiple generations represented in them. I only met one of my grandparents, and he passed away when I was eight years old. I also love seeing the way you prepared for your road trip … getting our oil changed is always on our to-do list as well.

Living Life one day at a time

But if serving the Lord seems undesirable to you, then choose for yourselves this day whom you will serve, whether the gods your ancestors served beyond the Euphrates, or the gods of the Amorites, in whose land you are living. But as for me and my household, we will serve the Lord.”

Joshua 24:15 Joshua 24:15

Whatever you do, work at it with all your heart, as working for the Lord, not for human masters, since you know that you will receive an inheritance from the Lord as a reward. It is the Lord Christ you are serving.

Colossians 3:23-24 Colossians 3:23-24

My flesh and my heart may fail, but God is the strength of my heart and my portion forever.

Psalm 73:26 Psalm 73:26
