Being pregnant with my 3rd baby you would think that I am totally ready for my birth. That I know what to expect right? Not right. Both my births have been totally different in many ways. I never knew what was going to happen.
After working in Labor and Delivery I have gotten to know my nurses well. I gained a lot of insight on what you should really expect when delivering a baby. I decided I wanted write out a helpful yet honest list for moms ready to have a baby. Whether it be a first time mom, or a mom ready to have her 10th.
This list is in no way meant to be rude or hurtful and not all apply to every birth. Every birth is different in many ways.
#1. Don’t forget that your baby is coming out one way or another. You WILL be pushing the baby out. PERIOD.
#2. You can not control labor. Labor is a unpredictable process we try to manage. Final goal will always be healthy baby, healthy mom.
#3. Birth never goes as planed. Therefore BIRTH PLANS never go as planed.
#4. Your nurse wants nothing but the best for you. She is not the cause of your pain, do not take it out on her.
#5. Your doctor will not be at the hospital during your whole labor . You will not see your doctor until your baby is about to pop out.
#6. Contractions hurt like hell.
#7. Use the golden hour, you can never get that hour back. Your family can wait. They will always be there.
- The GOLDEN HOUR is the hour after your baby is born. Spend it with mom, dad and baby.
#8. Epidural does not always mean pain free.
#9. C-Sections happen. More than likely if your nurse or doctor is suggesting a C-section its for the best.
#10. Pain, pain and more pain. But pain that is worth every second.
GOOD LUCK! AND REMEMBER IT IS ALL WORTH IT.
