I recently had the privilege of attending part of the Woman Of Joy conference here in San Antonio Texas. Even though I did not get to see the whole conference like I wanted too I did however get to experience Liz Cutris Higgs, Lisa Whelchel and Miss Kay from Duck Dynasty along with wonderful worship music from Charles Billingsley.
Walking into that room Saturday morning I could feel the Holy Spirit. Full of women who have come together for the ONE purpose, to learn, praise and worship my God. I became extremely overwhelming with joy. It brought tears to my eyes to think about how the Angels in Heaven must have been dancing and singing along with us and the smile i’m sure Jesus had on his face for so many of his wonderful daughters to have come together just for him.
So many women, so many talented speakers from all over, in one place to do one thing. The first speaker I listened too was Mrs. Liz Curtis Higgs. Liz has to be one of the best, funniest speakers that I have ever listened too. She is the Author of over 30 books and travels the world spreading the word of Jesus. One of her books that I have actually studied many years ago is Bad Girls of the Bible. Sitting listening to her speak was astonishing. How well she not only is at talking to other women but her ability to make us all laugh. The ability to teach the story of Ruth to me without me taking my eyes off of her. Liz Curtis Higgs is just simply amazing at what she does. She however could not finish the whole story about Ruth so she decided that for the last 5 minutes of her speech that she would just go ahead a rap the rest of it. She did not leave us hanging but instead laughing our heads off. I got to learn about Ruth and her daughter-n-law and enjoyed doing it.
Meeting Lisa Whelchel (actress from The Facts of Life and last seasons Survivor) she was extremely kind to all of us bloggers. She is one great woman of God and loves to share her experience and walk with God with the world. One thing I could not forget about her speech is when she first started going to church as a young child what drove her to church were the donuts. This made me laugh because every Sunday morning first thing my son tells me when he wakes up is “Time for church and get donuts”.
Later that night I was extremely excited to get to meet and take photos with Miss. Kay from Duck Dynasty. All though meeting her was very quick I did get my photo with her. Listening to Miss. Kay’s story was “very refreshing” as my sister-n-law put it. She probably broke every rule in the “giving a speech handbook” but broke the well. While standing up on the stage with her Coke Zero in her hand she gave us quite a ride with her life story and the huge role that God played in it.
Being at Women of Joy this year gave me hope in the future of the Women in our country. It taught me so much and I will not miss it ever again. I hope that ya’ll get the chance to go and experience what great Joy that I have. I will carry that weekend in my heart for many, many years to come.
